If you live in or are visiting the Philadelphia region and you’ve had your fill of Philly Cheesesteaks, you can entrance your taste buds with a visit to Marrakesh Restaurant for a Mediterranean meal inspired by the culinary heritage of Morocco. When you dine at Marrakesh, you’re in for a culinary adventure that satisfies all your senses–not just your hunger. The old-world Berber atmosphere of the restaurant and its colorful Moroccan décor wafts you to another time and place as you enjoy your dining experience.
A Celebration of Moroccan Cuisine
Like many countries bordering the Mediterranean, Morocco has been influence by many people and cultures over the centuries. These influences have combined and resulted in culinary heritage that is rich with local flavors as well as more far-flung Mediterranean influences. Many people love Moroccan food because it’s more heavily spiced than other Middle Eastern cuisines and, yet, it also features herbs and fruits that brighten up its flavors. Marrakesh has more than three decades of experience perfecting their Moroccan specialties. Using fresh ingredients prepared with authentic techniques, the restaurant has won its place as a top Philadelphia establishment for Mediterranean fare.
A Marrakesh Banquet
A dinner at Marrakesh is unlike any other restaurant experience in Philadelphia. For instance, you can enjoy a rug banquet outfitted with richly colored pillows and Moroccan tapestries and textiles. Rooms brim with the enchanting fragrances of incense and are dimly lit with Moroccan lanterns for a more ambient experience. Authentic dishes are served on ceramics you might find at a Fez bazaar. All these design features help create a cultural experience that could only be improved if you actually hopped a plane to Marrakesh or Casablanca.
The Food
Decorative features aside, the tastes of Marrakesh Restaurant are the main reasons to visit for a meal. Marrakesh consistently wows guests with house specialties like tajine of lamb, spicy chicken with lemon and olives, and layered chicken pie with assorted nuts and confectionary sugar. You’ll taste the exotic in every bite for a meal that’s unforgettable in many ways. Popular dishes are prepared with ingredients like almond slivers, honey, chick peas, eggplant, bell peppers, and cumin sauce. The juicy beef shish kebobs are a must-try. Depending on the courses you order, you might taste delightful flavors of nutmeg, ginger, cumin, turmeric, cinnamon, saffron, and cloves. Your mouth will think you’ve arrived at the old Spice Route of the East–when in reality, it’s just Philadelphia.
If you visit Marrakesh Restaurant on the weekend, you’ll be in for a treat. After live belly dancing complements your dinner experience, you’ll understand why so many people travel to Morocco to experience its enchanting culture. From the sumptuous pillows to the grilled meats and their incredible aromas, your feast will only be enhanced by the live entertainment. Naturally, you can wash all the goodness down with a fruity Mediterranean vintage. You also will not want to skip dessert. You can enjoy a bountiful platter of fresh fruit or Moroccan and Mediterranean-style pasties with a cup of authentic mint tea. Al Dar is excellent — I go there occasionally and love it — we will have an article written shortly about them. Thanks for the suggestion. Keep them coming.
Most people think that it is exotic dining, but from NY to Boston, Middle Eastern Food is the new yuppy (Young Urban Preppies) food where the (DINKs) “Double Income No Kids” eat. You don`t really know what you are missing out on until you try it. This is the thing right here and if you want to reward yourself with something you have never tasted before, definitely go for it!
