Il Capriccio- A New Jersey Staple Since 1984

With its consistent excellence and adherence to authentic Italian tradition, Il Capriccio is among the best of the best when it comes to New Jersey’s Italian restaurant scene. Located in Whippany, Il Capriccio was founded by Antonio and Clara Grande after they outgrew their first gourmet Italian restaurant known as Bel’vedere. Like their first restaurant, Il Capriccio features authentic Italian food, but on a much grander scale. If you are looking to celebrate a special occasion over a delicious meal, Il Capriccio will not disappoint you.

Atmosphere

Il Capriccio boasts a lovely environment, which is just one of the reasons why it continues to be a New Jersey and, particularly, a regional favorite.  Before you even get to the food, which is outstanding, you’re greeted by a dazzling array of fresh flowers and floral displays complemented by stunning pottery.  Somehow the formal touches of the décor are softened by a genuinely welcoming atmosphere that is always inviting and conducive to intimate and delighting meals.  The floor-to-ceiling artworks are equally stunning and make you feel as if you are dining within a Tuscan villa overlooking the vineyards or the sea.

The Food

Although regular customers rave about the atmosphere and impeccable service of Il Capriccio, the food is most definitely the heart and soul of this restaurant. Featuring produce grown on the chef’s own farm and other locally sourced and organic ingredients, Il Capriccio features a menu that brims with delectable selections like Veal Milanese and Rack of Lamb in Tre Pepi, which is prepared with creamy cognac and grilled radicchio. The chefs delight in using the best ingredients to highlight the best authentic recipes of Italy. From fresh seafood to handmade pasta, there’s a splendid selection of entrees to choose from as well as appetizers and salads. If you are visiting Il Capriccio for its pasta, as so many do, you might try the Linguine Fresche con Scampi e Granchio that is made with scampi and crab meat, which is bathed in a luscious tomato concasse. The Tagliatelle Bolognese is served with beef Bolognese sauce made with mascarpone cheese and accompanied by English peas. If you’re in the mood for a steak, the NY Strip Piemontese is highlighted by fingerling potatoes and sautéed dandelion greens that bring a refreshing yet authentic flavor to the mouthwatering steak. It’s truly difficult to decide on a meal because the preparation are utterly high end and all unique in their own ways.

Ambience and Dessert

Many fans of the restaurant enjoy coming to dine on special Jazz nights. Live music is the perfect accompaniment to a special meal here. Dessert, of course, is a must. From simple offerings like hazelnut gelato to delectable warm apple crumb cake served with cinnamon gelato, you’ll find innovative as well as traditional Italian desserts on hand. Not surprisingly, Il Capriccio has an extensive dinner wine and dessert wine and liquor list. You won’t be disappointed by a single aspect of dinner here. It’s a wonderful place for a meal with family or if you wish to enjoy a romantic date.
